PROGRAM NOTE
The soul-searching lyrics of Abide With Me (S.A.S.B. 529) have touched the hearts of people all around the world. The poet expresses the many different experiences and feelings of mankind, concluding that we all need the Lord to be our constant companion and source of power.
ABOUT THE COMPOSER
Timothy Howard is a fourth generation Salvationist. He grew up in the Army and gave his heart to the Lord at an early age. He learned to love music and began attending music camps where he met and learned from some of the finest musicians in The Salvation Army. These early experiences inspired him to pursue his degree in Music Education. After 30 years as a high school band director, he retired in 2018 and began composing. Using his God-given abilities, he hopes and prays that his music will encourage people to deepen their faith. This is Timothy’s first contribution to the Maple Leaf Brass Journal.
