MLB #65 Away in a Manger (James Allen)

James Allen has crafted a beautiful and simplistic cornet solo that blends together the two familiar tunes associated with this much-loved Christmas carol.

James Allen is a sixth generation Salvationist, originally from the UK but now residing in the Los Angeles area. At the age of five, he began his music studies with weekly piano lessons. As a teenager, James began to compete in local and state wide music competitions where he successfully received all state honours multiple times, and received first place in several prestigious piano competitions. Since being awarded both trombone and piano scholarships at California State University (Long Beach), James has had extensive experience as a freelance pianist and keyboardist from playing, recording, and arranging for artists such as Normani Kordei (Fifth Harmony), Bilal and Kris Allen (American Idol winner), as well as playing regularly with some of LAs best musicians. James is currently the Assistant Divisional Music Director in the Southern California Division. He soldiers at the Pasadena Tabernacle Corps where he serves as principle trombone in the band and pianist for the Songsters. James also plays trombone with the Western Territory Staff Band. This is his first contribution to the Maple Leaf Brass journal.
